On Sunday, November 1st, 2009 Lester Bacon and Secretary James Ballotti along with other community members paid a visit to the McHenry Villa Retirement Community in McHenry, Illinois where Certificates of Appreciation, provided by the Elks National Veterans Service Commission, where handed out to veterans residing in the community. Approximately 30 residents and staff where present for the presentation. Certificates were presented to 16 veterans who reside at the home. Also on hand to help the Elks recognize our veterans where three members of the McHenry County Marine Corp League and Auxillary, a member of the McHenry Masonic Temple, and other friends of Lester Bacon.
The certificate reads:
For Unselfishly Answering Our Country's Call To Preserve The Way Of Life We Take For Granted Today, By Whose Patriotism And Valor Helped Attain The Peace And Security Which Has Made The United States Of America A World Leader
All of the veterans receiving their certificates were extremely greatful and enjoyed the moment. Refreshments were served following the presentation and all of us making the presentation enjoyed some time talking with our vets and learning more about their service. Most of the veterans here are veterans of World War II.
The following pictures are of presentations of the certificate to some of the veterans living at McHenry Villa.
